Getting Started with Designer

This walkthrough will help you quickly become familiar with the main tools and features available in Designer. By following these steps, you’ll be able to easily locate icons and functions that make navigating and working within your design more efficient.

When you first enter Designer, look for the Help Center icon. Depending on your setup, it may appear in the bottom-left or bottom-right corner of the screen.

The Help Center gives you access to a wide range of support materials and reference documents. It also includes a messaging function, allowing you to communicate directly with colleagues, vendors, or the BeamUp support team.

Select the three icons on the left side of the screen to open the left-hand panel:

Click on the Settings icon on the right-hand side of the screen to open the right-hand panel.

Within the Design tab, you can view details of any device you select directly from the design.

At the top of the screen, you’ll find essential navigation icons. These let you switch between different floors or versions of your design. You can move around using the select and pan tools, or by pressing the spacebar and dragging with the left mouse button. Undo and Redo buttons are also available for quick corrections.

Other icons allow you to zoom in, zoom out, and recenter your design. Alternatively, you can use your mouse wheel or scroll function for the same actions.

On the right-hand side of the top bar, you’ll see the last saved date of your design along with a search box. Use this search feature to quickly locate specific rooms or devices within the facility.

Every element—such as rooms, devices, doors, and spaces—comes with a unique ID and URL, visible in the top navigation bar. These URLs are particularly useful for sharing within the Help Center when you need to point out specific areas.
